5 Tips to Winterize your Home!

The cold weather is upon us and it's time to winterize your home! Below are five simple solutions that will help winter-proof both the interior and exterior of your house:

1. Clear Rain Gutters
Rain gutters get clogged throughout the year. Make sure you clean them out before the snow hits. Clogged gutters can prevent proper drainage and could cause excessive ice. Some rain gutters can't handle this extra weight and you may have roof repairs to make next spring.

2. Change Ceiling Fan Direction
Changing the speed and direction of your ceiling fan will actually keep you warmer during those chilly months. Since heat rises, this blows the warm air downward!

3. Use Draft Stoppers
Draft stoppers are used under your door to block the threshold from allowing cold air in and warm air out. They come in all shapes and sizes and can be made from a variety of materials. They are particularly used on doors where there isn't carpeting on either side.

4. Buy a Water Heater Insulation Blanket

Water heater blankets are inexpensive and easy to install. This simple addition can make all the difference in the amount of heat lost by your water heater, especially if it's stored in an unheated area.

5. Ready your Fireplace
Now is the time to clean out excess soot and make sure the fireplace damper is in good working order. Also, you might want to get some firewood so you're ready to use your fireplace when needed.
